NEW YORK STATE PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETIC 2004-2005
RULE 2-3a: PLAYERS IN UNIFORM *
There
is NO maximum number of players. (Note: Variance
approve10/99)
RULE 2-4c WARM-UP BETWEEN PERIODS * All players will be allowed a two minute warm-up period to skate and stretch between periods. During this warm-up period no shots will be taken and players must stay in their own end of the ice. A team shall not use pucks on the ice before the start of the second or subsequent periods or where there is a separate warm-up period followed by an ice cut, before the start of the first period. (addition approved (9/28/01) Upon the official's whistle all players except the starting line-up will go immediately to their respective players bench. For a violation of this rule a team will be assessed a minor penalty.
RULE 2-6b INJURED GOALKEEPER * When a team dresses only one goalkeeper and he is injured, two minutes will be allowed for that goalkeeper to recover. All players are to go to their team bench upon the direction of the game official. The official shall notify the game timekeeper to time the recovery period. * The hockey committee adds that if there is no substitute goaltender in goalkeeper equipment, then extreme caution, by the coach, shall be used to replace the incapacitated goaltender.
RULE 3-3 THROAT GUARD * It is mandatory for all players to wear approved throat protectors and that they shall not be altered from the original manufactures specifications. For the first violation of this rule the player will be given a warning and sent to the bench, and for the second violation by the same player a minor penalty will be assessed.
RULE 3-4 ,5,6: PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT * Headguards displaced during normal action of play shall call for an immediate whistle if the player is involved directly in the action. * If a player looses his helmet and the play is moving out of his zone and the player remains in his zone, the player shall be given time enough to replace the helmet and fasten the chin strap or skate to his player's bench. If the play re-enters the zone, there shall be an immediate whistle and the player assessed a minor penalty for delay of game. * All players are required to wear helmets while on the ice (including the warm-up), in the players' bench and in the penalty bench. The first violation of the rule will be a warning and the second violation by the same player will be a minor penalty. * All helmets worn by players must include an ear piece. (Adopted Ice Hockey Committee 3/01, Central Committee 8/01). * All players, including goalkeepers, are required to wear an internal mouth guard that covers all remaining teeth or one jaw. The mouth guard shall not be altered from the original manufacturer specifications, except with the prescription of a medical authority. For the initial violation of this rule, the offending player shall be assessed a misconduct penalty and be replaced on the ice. For a second offense by the same player in the same game, a game misconduct penalty will be assessed. It is mandatory that mouth guards be colored. RULE 3-5d FACE MASKS * Face masks and dental guards shall not be altered from the original manufactures' specifications. Only HECC-ASTM approved face masks may be used. The full face mask must be mobile enough (on a swivel bolt) to allow the mask to be pulled open without removing the helmet in case of unusual injury to the neck or head. The bars must be spaced so that no stick can penetrate the mask and the mask must be equipped with a close fitting chin cup. RULE 3-7b JEWELRY * Jewelry shall not be worn, except for religious or medical medals, which shall be taped to the body under the uniform. Penalty-Misconduct. Returning to the game without correcting equipment shall be penalized by game misconduct. (Approved 9/28/01)
RULE 4-1-4 PENALTIES * Minor
penalties shall be 1 minute, 30 seconds in duration.
RULE 4-5 and 6-17 DISQUALIFICATION/GAME MISCONDUCT
* The referee shall designate and penalize other improper
conduct not herein mentioned and, at his discretion, may increase any
penalties in these rules, especially for any particular infringement
thereof (as may be shown by a repetition of any offense.)
RULE 6-54 and 56 OVERTIME * During
the regular season (non-tournament or consolation game, or any game where
a winner is not necessary) there will be a three minute rest for players
(teams do not change ends) and one five minute sudden-death overtime
period will be played. The first team to score shall win the
game. If neither team scores in the five minutes, the game shall be
declared a tie. ADDENDUM #1: PROCEDURES FOR A "SHOOT DOWN" 1. 1st Attempt- Each team shall select
three shooters who will meet at center ice 2. The official(s) will flip a
coin to see which team starts. Players form opposing 3. If there is a tie after
the first group of six, each team will select three new 4. If there is still a
tie, each team will select another three shooters (none of those 5. If a tie still
